The Wedding Singer

My Dear Friend of Almost 10 Years Gets Married

The Couple: Chloe and Jeremy

I have known Chloe since Junior year of High School. We actually met sooner in a production of "Hello Dolly" but we didn't really become friends until we both took a beginning theater class and bonded over many lunch runs to Winger's. We went on our senior trip to New York City and roomed together during our college years. Chloe has a super vibrant personality and you never know what she's going to do next! She met Jeremy online after going through handfuls of guys who just didn't have what it takes. I'm so glad she found a supportive, sensitive guy that has made her so happy.

The Wedding

Chloe and Jeremy were sealed in the Bountiful LDS Temple. It was a beautiful ceremony and the weather was perfect! I got to be bridesmaids with one of my other best friends Liz, who I've been friends with since the 8th grade. It was a blast to spend the day catching up and gossiping with her husband Jon. We took some pictures with the wedding party and then to pass the time in between the ceremony and the reception we went on a Costco run, naturally, then we got some food at City Creek in Salt Lake City and headed down to the Reception.

The venue was absolutely STUNNING! It was inside a greenhouse that had let the trees and vines form a lush, green canopy, strung with lights. I forgot that I was inside a building! It felt like a tropical destination wedding. In the dining area were more trees and flowers, with a waterfall as the backdrop to the sweetheart's table. The dinner was quite delicious and while we ate, each of the bride and groom's family members gave touching speeches. After dinner it was time to party!!

Hearts and Wedding Guests were on Fire at the Reception

For the refreshments at the wedding, the couple had a crepe bar where the crepes were made fresh and a wide variety of toppings to put on them. However, the challenges of the crepes being made right in front of you is that if the cook happens to spill oil on the burner, and you are standing in front of the hot pan, you might catch on fire. This was evident as this exact occurrence happened to one of the wedding guests standing several feet away from me. The people surrounding him tried anxiously to smother the flames that had swallowed his shirt. After what seemed like too long, he finally was flame free and escaped to the bathroom to check for damage. When he came out it seemed that his shirt had not been singed, but I'm sure his hands and eyebrows managed to take on some damage. Who knew that crepes could be so deadly?

Always a wedding singer?..

Chloe and Jeremy also had chosen to hire a wedding singer to serenade us during the reception. I noticed his voice first and was quite impressed and then happened to notice his appearance was also quite impressive. I made a comment to my friend Liz about this and she decided that we better do a walk-by to see if there was a ring on his hand. We casually sauntered by and noticed his left hand was vacant and then transitioned into scheming mode. Liz's husband Jon happens to be excellent at finding information on the internet and found him within a few minutes. We discovered that I had 29 mutual friends with the wedding singer and I had seen him in a musical. We then tried to come up with multiple strategies to get me to talk to him. I tried casually catching his eye seeing if he would also be glancing back. Now I just had to muster the courage to talk to him. I'm a strong, confident, gorgeous girl! What wedding singer wouldn't be flattered to have me approach him? Right?

After the couple had departed I noticed some of the guests talking to the singer. I decided to take advantage of their conversation and complimented him on his performance. We got talking and realized that we shared many common interests such as community theater and ballroom dancing and had multiple friends in common (who would've known? 😏). He asked for my name and said that he would find me on Facebook. I thought maybe it was a hollow promise but he did in fact send me a friend request a couple hours later. I waited a few days before I sent him a message and we started talking. Finally talking turned into going out on several dates.

Unfortunately, the affair was short-lived. Despite having SO much in common and having fantastic conversations every time, he told me that he didn't feel any chemistry. (I suppose him touching my arm, playfully pushing me, winking at me, and suggesting we watch Game of Thrones together doesn't qualify as chemistry 😐)  He must be an expert though as a 35-year old unmarried mad who still lives with roommates. The best part is he told me we could still be friends. I would love nothing more than to platonically attend his Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. It sounds as if I will never see him again unless I book him to sing at my wedding. Oh well. Always a wedding singer never a groom?
